Völkische Kulturpolitik für Europa?
Kulturrat Österreich fordert: Der ungarische Fidesz-Politiker Tibor Navracsics ist als EU-Kommissar abzulehnen!
In den kommenden Wochen entscheidet das europäische Parlament über die Bestellung der neuen EU-Kommission. Für das Ressort „Bildung, Kultur, Jugend und Bürgerschaft“ ist allerdings ein denkbar ungeeigneter Kandidat designiert: Der ungarische Fidesz-Politiker Tibor Navracsics, zuletzt ungarischer Außenminister, war von 2010 bis 2014 Justizminister und stellvertretender Ministerpräsident unter Viktor Orban und als solcher aktiv an der Aushöhlung der ungarischen Verfassungsordnung beteiligt. Einem Vertreter völkisch-religiöser Machtpolitik wie ihm die europäische Bildungs- und Kulturpolitik zu überantworten, ist völlig indiskutabel.
Wer Kunst und Kultur nicht als Vehikel für die patriotische Überhöhung des Eigenen, nicht als Schmiermittel für das völkische Zusammenwachsen gegen innere und äußere Feindbilder, nicht als Teil einer geschichtsrevisionistischen Strategie versteht, in der ein verurteilter Kriegsverbrecher aus der Nazizeit zum Volkshelden und Nationalautor hochstilisiert wird, kann diesen Kommissar nicht akzeptieren.
Dass die Fidesz immer noch Teil der Europäischen Volkspartei (EVP) ist, der auch die ÖVP angehört, ist zudem ein politischer Skandal. Der Kulturrat fordert die Österreichische Volkspartei auf, in den Gremien der EVP in dieser Angelegenheit unverzüglich zu handeln!

Reaktion Kulturrat Österreich auf diesen Brief (9.10.2014)
Dear Culture Action Europe,
We are appalled to read CAE’s reaction to Mr. Navracsics‘ hearing: The fact that Tibor Navracsics had to be questioned by the EP regarding his commitment to European fundamental values, Treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU is in itself alarming enough. Obviously he would commit to Europe before the EP, because in fact this is a prerequisite for any designated political representative organ in the EU (and after all, he wants to be elected). At the same time it is obvious that Fidesz, as well as Tibor Navracsics himself, have a very special interpretation of the European Union’s Charter of Fundamental Rights, its treaties and laws, and consider Hungarian current policy fully in line with Europe.
We believe it is not. And it is simply nonsense to maintain he has proven that his positions differ from those recently put forward in Hungary. Dangerous nonsense, to be more specific. We therefore protest most vigorously against CAE’s statement of 3 October 2014 („Culture Action Europe reacts to Mr Navracsics’ hearing“) that seems to be an attempt to develop good relations with Navracsics in an act of anticipatory obedience hoping to be met with an open ear when trying to achieve objectives in cultural politics later on. In our view, this strategy is not only dangerous, it is also highly questionable in political terms – history has repeatedly taught us that first signs must be nipped in the bud.
We therefore want to make it very clear that the Austrian Cultural Council/Kulturrat Österreich is still strictly opposed to Tibor Navracsics‘ being appointed EU Commissioner, and we take it for granted that CAE will respect our position and at least make public via its website and facebook that there is opposition within CAE against this statement, i.e. that CAE is not speaking for all of its members in this case. We also take it for granted that CAE will publish our statement, and we will certainly publicize it ourselves. We also reserve the right to take further action.
